Intro to Experience and Interaction Design
Professor: James Pannafino
Fall 2014
This semester I look forward to increasing my knowledge in Design. By taking this course I feel I will receive a better basic knowledge of html/css even though I have already taken beginner and intermediate course in html and css. I look forward to learning about interfaces and being able to create apps and websites that are responsive to mobile devices.
In our first class we went over the syllabus and student forms to give us an idea of how the class will work. As for homework we were required to purchase two books for the course (Above the Fold, Revised Edition by Brian Miller) and Interdisciplinary Interaction Design by James Pannafino. Also for homework we needed to register for the Interdisciplinary Interaction Design Conference on Sat. Nov. 22nd and read an article called "What is Product Design" off of the website called Medium.
Review of Article:
What is Product Design?
Typically we get the term product designer confused with other fields in the design world. Product designers are someone who can take a present a solution to a problem by identifying, investigating, validating, crafting, testing and shipping the final solution of the problem. A good product designers have a little bit of knowledge of everything and are very good and creative in what they do. They will consist of the areas such as Interaction or UX designer, graphic or visual designer, motion/animation, user researcher, data analysts, prototypers and business Strategists. Although in some companies they will still have people for each one of these areas but a product designer will have it all. Art is constantly evolving so it's important to be caught on the newest information and finding the best solutions to problems you may come across.
What I got out of this article was that product designers are almost one of the most important person on the team in order to create the interface or web site thats being designed. For example if not everyone on the team is working together like the product design team and the marketing team then their may be miscommunication and ultimately cause your product to fail.
